The Modern Day Texas Challenge

Date set for August 16th, 2008

In 24 Hours:
3 - 90 minute Bikram Yoga sessions
Since Austin is considered by many to be the Hippy capital of Texas, what better way to recognize this modern day Texas transformation than to include yoga in the challenge. But lest you be fooled into thinking this will be a relaxing part of the challenge, Bikram Yoga is an intense, strength-focused practice that is done in temperatures over 105 degrees. This will most likely be the toughest event of the day

3900 meters in Barton Springs pool
Barton Springs is considered by many to be the heart of Austin, which is the capital of Texas. So I had to do some swimming in this incredible spring fed pool at the end of the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Unfortunately, I haven't done any distance swimming in years, so this could be a problem...

39 k mountain bike ride in the Barton Creek Greenbelt
Contrary to popular belief, most of us Texans don't ride horses any more. So the modern day equivalent for getting around the hill country of central texas is the mountain bike. After taking about four years off since my son was born, I have recently been getting back into mountain bike riding, so it seemed fitting to push myself up all the climbs in the Barton Creek Greenbelt.

39 cannonballs into the pool
Ok, so there is no good way to tie this to Texas, but there has to be something silly in every challenge

In one sitting, consume:
39 oz of sausage
39 oz Lone Star

One thing that Texans take very seriously is their BBQ. Traditional BBQ is primarily brisket, ribs, and sausage. I have modernized this a bit by focusing on sausage and trying to include a big variety of types that are available these days.

Also of note is that Steve Moore will be doing his own challenge on the same weekend and we will be doing a combined challenge celebration party at our house on the evening of August 16th, 2008.
